Teen Titans Season Three

So, my friend and I have been working our way through the very reasonably priced season sets for the animated Teen Titans. We just started on the recently-released third season, and this prompted some thoughts:

  • The second episode of the third season involves an unnamed, never unmasked person stealing the high-tech “Red X” costume Robin used in the first season when posing as a super-villain. Now, I’ve always held that cartoon-Robin is some weird mixture of Dick Grayson (the first Robin in the comics) and Tim Drake (the third and current Robin), but in this episode he is definitely Tim Drake, because “Red X II” is so, so Jason Todd (the second Robin).
  • Most amusingly, the writers were clearly aware of this, as that is in Beast Boy’s list of possibilities as to Red X’s identity.
  • Related, cartoon-Robin is no mere Robin. He is the Goddamn Robin.

Now, I should probably work on writing something anime-related before this becomes a comics blog instead of an anime blog.

The below-mentioned Batman fanfic has been finished and posted to the FFML. Once I see the response, if any, and revise appropriately, it’ll get posted here and other places.

Now I can get back to work on One Hundred Days. And maybe even some content for this blog.

A Couple of Links

One Hundred Days is way behind schedule, I have plenty of non-fanfic-related things I should be working on, and there’s a lot of stuff I vaguely want to write up for posting here.

…so why I am I writing a Batman fanfic that’s rapidly expanding to be many times it’s original projected length, if I can ever get past the fight scene between [SPOILER REMOVED] and the Joker?

Because my muses are easily distracted and insistent. Grumble, moan, whine.

PS. It isn’t a fight scene between the Spoiler and the Joker, as hilarious a meta-joke that would turn my attempt to avoid spoiling the fic’s ending into.

Recent Naruto Manga

  • What’s the difference between the first chapter of a fanfiction I’m not going to read more of and the latest story-arc in Naruto? One swiftly and clumsily eliminates old characters, introduces a host of new characters including a new love interest for a pre-existing character, in a burst of enthusiasm boosts said pre-existing character to new, unrivaled heights of power with little regard to explanation or logic, and generally fails to generate any interest in where the story is going. The other I frequently encounter on Fanfiction.Net.

It says something… interesting about my state of mind that when Steven writes (20070315.1900):

I don’t know if anyone’s interested, but I’ve gotten involved in an interesting discussion of the Civil War here and here.

my first thought was: “I didn’t know Steven followed American comics at all.”

Incidentally, both linked articles are worth reading if you’re interested in the Civil War that was about slavery, rather than the one that involved superheros punching each other over a thinly-veiled poor allegory of the Patriot Act.

Real content coming soon. I promise.

Status Reportage

So, I haven’t posted lately. Oops?

Mainly, I’ve been trying – and failing – to work on my fanfiction (though I recently managed to get another scene out). Also, most of the stuff I’ve been watching the past week or so has been a little outside the scope of this blog, and more importantly I haven’t had much to say about it. Short version: Teen Titans Season One – obviously a kids show, but still funny and good; Ultimate Avengers – decent, but not great, and not nearly as good as the comics it was based on.

Posts you can look forward to, or dread as the case might be: Record of Lodoss War (my current watching project), Master of Epic: the Animation Age (which Steven’s posts about convinced me to give a shot), and possibly something on the past few chapters Naruto manga once I figure out what I think about them. And probably some other stuff.

And with that, I’m signing off, not to return until I have some actual content to post.

Another Another Upgrade

It seems that WordPress 2.1.1 contained malicious code due to a compromise of one of WordPress’s download servers. I just finished upgrading to 2.1.2, so let me know if you see anything wrong.

Posting has been very light lately, mainly because I’ve spent my time trying (and failing) to get cracking on finishing the last chapter of One Hundred Days.

Another Upgrade Complete

This blog is now running the latest version of WordPress and the Tarski theme. As always, please let me know if you see anything weird.

Fanfic Status Report

I finally got another scene done for One Hundred Days Chapter 15. It’s not even that this scene was giving me trouble, just that it wound up being a bit on the long side and I had trouble getting motivated to actually write. Unfortunately, the next scene is looking like it might be a little rough also, but we’ll see.

Current Status: 9 of 22 scenes written
Current Length: 70.0 KB, 12059 words by OpenOffice’s count

This is… kind of shaping up to be a rather long chapter. I really shouldn’t be surprised.
