Not much to say on this week’s chapter; most of the stuff I would whine about I’ve already whined about before. The Shikamaru scenes that made up the bulk of the chapter were nicely done, and it seems like my prediction as to the nature of the next arc will be correct. Just one thought:

  • It’s kind of amusing to watch how Kishimoto (understandably) struggles to avoid definitively establishing Naruto, Sasuke, or Sakura as having killed someone, despite in the context of the world it not only being okay but expected for them to kill.
  • And of course, because in context it would be silly otherwise, all those characters have shown themselves not only willing to kill but actually have tried to kill people over the course of the manga. Which makes it all the more amusing how things never work out that they land a killing blow.

Okay, so it was one-and-a-half thoughts. I rounded down, all right?

Yep, it’s that time again. Behold yet another DVD cover image. Because I’m much to lazy to figure out how to make screencaps, much less actually take the screencaps. And I’d probably finally have to install DVD player software on this computer. What do you think I’m made of, free time?

…all right. So I do write and anime blog and write fanfiction. So by definition I do have too much free time.

Anyway, on with the cover image, the cut, and then… an unordered list of my thoughts!

I’ve mentioned before that I thought that I complained too much on this blog. I’ve decided to try to do something about that, so hence this series of posts, in which I strive to be completely positive, preferably about something that I think isn’t getting enough attention.

The first up is a manga that’s already up to six volumes released in America, Claymore.

Shikamaru of Leafninja, I salute you:

Episode 220 has aired in Japan, this marks the last Naruto episode. Yes, I know it’s sad. This is the last Naruto episode ever, it was a good run, the last two years have been beyond awesome. How can you forget the time Naruto peed on Ino or that time Akamaru went rabid and humped Naruto’s butt? So many awesome moments where Studio Pierrot took the series to the next level. Characters like Raiga and the multiple Houki’s, all fully-fleshed out characters with great emotional subtext and motivation. Who can forget the times Naruto took on powerful enemies and chose to attack them with kunai rather than Rasengan, or that time he chose to use Rasengan when his boat lacked a motor? Who can forget all those new exotic lands, like the Bear Country, with it’s power hungry Hoshikage or the Vegetable and Bird Countries, with their cross-dressing female leaders? Who can forget those evil groups full of powerful ninja, like Shinobazu, the Fuuma trio, the Kamizuru, the Criminal Brothers, the Shitenshounin and all those wandering ninja. Such a good run. We salute you Tiger Mizuki, may your orange fur never fade and may you cereal always be GRREEAAT!

Gah. It’s hard to believe just how many filler episodes Naruto has had.

The pedant in me is irritated that this is under the “Anime” category, but the sane part of me knows that having separate “Anime” and “Manga” categories would be silly.

This post is a sequel to my previous post of why I didn’t like chapter 340, though in patent-pending bulleted list “Thoughts On” format. As with that post, all real content is after the cut due to ZOMGSPOILERS.

So tonight my friend and I dug out the second Stratos 4 DVD:

Stratos 4 DVD 2

As with the previous DVD, an unordered collection of my random thoughts, though this time written shortly after watching instead of weeks later.

It seems like most of my posts here are about why I didn’t like something. I suppose it says something unflattering about me, but I find I have much more to say about things I didn’t like than things I enjoyed.

Ah well, enough introspection. Rant after the cut, consider yourself spoiler-warned if you haven’t been following the Naruto manga.

Okay, so I lied when I said posting was going to resume shortly. Oops.

Anyway, back over the holidays I was shopping at Best Buy and saw a box set of Stratos 4 going for a mere fifteen bucks. Since Steven Den Beste said nice things about it and the character designs were attractive, I figured it was worth that. So, a few weeks back I dug out the first volume and watched it with a friend.

Stratos 4 DVD 1 Cover. Finding this image was harder than you'd think!

And now, much later, I’m going to post a collection of random thoughts, mainly for the purpose of having a recent post up here. Potential spoilers for the first DVD after the cut.

Speaking of Dattebayo

It seems it is crazy antics time again, as instead of a normal release of Bleach Episode 109 they’ve released “Bleach Episode 109 FINAL” as a “co-production” between themselves and YHBT (You Have Been Trolled), the name under which Dattebayo usually releases their trolls and fakesubs.

If you’re curious about just what the joke is this time, don’t bother downloading it. Despite being 170 MB, it’s roughly two minutes long, and pretty much just consists of screenshots of their feedback Inbox filled with whining about the release of episode 109 being late, followed by the announcement that because of this there will be no release of Bleach 109.

Past experience suggests that the episode nonetheless will be out before Bleach 110 airs, quite likely sometime tomorrow.

UPDATE: The more I think of it, the more likely it seems that the puzzling actual release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Episode 1 was intended, in combination with a known-in-advance delay in getting out Bleach 109, precisely to prompt all the “why are you wasting time subbing Pokemon when BLEACH IS LATE?” whines so they could do this.

Of course, it’s always possible that they are for once serious and won’t release Bleach 109 and that they will continue to release episodes of Pokemon, making me look like an idiot, but I’m used to that.

UPDATE 2: That was faster than I expected. Only four hours after posting the troll, Bleach 109 has appeared on Dattebayo’s tracker. Of course, knowing Dattebayo it could be part of an even more elaborate troll, but I won’t know about that until tomorrow.

Weirdest. Cat Tail. Evar.

Yes, I know I just said I wasn’t going to be doing many or any episode-posts. So sue me.

Anyway, a while back famed fansub group Dattebayo announced that they were dropping Naruto in favor of subbing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and released a fansub of the ninth episode, also stating that they would later go back and sub the previous episodes. Surprising no one who has ever paid the slightest bit of attention to their antics, this news post was a troll, and Dattebayo continues to sub Naruto to this day.

Much more surprisingly, they recently actually released a fansub of the first episode of the series. This prompted me to download and watch it, since I clearly have too much free time.
